Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
This week’s topic: Longest Books I’ve Read
I really started to track my reading in January 2017. I have a spreadsheet for each year where I track many different details about the books that I’ve read. One of those big details is the number of pages in each novel – so this was an easy question for me! I was surprised by the number of books that I read that had 400+ pages. I had seven other books that were above that range too!
10. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Steig Larsson (645 pages)
9. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak (550 pages)
8. Radio Silence by Alice Oseman (496 pages)
7. The Circle by Dave Eggers (493 pages)
6. Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult (480 pages)
5. American Sniper by Chris Kyle (448 pages)
4. Second Glance by Jodi Picoult (448 pages)
3. The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas (444 pages)
2. American Assassin by Vince Flynn (435 pages)
1. The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell by Robert Dugoni (434 pages)
Surprisingly, I enjoyed every single one of these longer novels. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was probably my favorite; The Book Thief was my least favorite.
Let’s Chat!
- Looking at your list of books from this week, were there any of them that just dragged on forever? Do you have that “when is this going to end?!?!” feeling?
I have definitely read some books that I wish would’ve ended way sooner, but luckily none of them made this list!
- Have you read any of the longest books? Do any of them appear on your TBR? Post your link below so I can see your top ten!
The Circle! Not my usual type book, but it haunts me now that we have a comment/vote system at work! GREAT list.

Oh wow, that’s frightening! Do you get extra rewards for the more comments/votes you receive?
Thank you!

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo felt super long to me because the first 3/4 of the book felt so boring! It was one big set up. Luckily, the books were much faster paced after that one.

The first 80ish pages were probably a bit challenging for me to get through, but then I flew through the rest. I loved it. The storyline was phenomenal.

I have The Circle and The Hate You Give on my tbr shelf. I hope to eventually get around to them.
Great list! I have not read any of these yet.

I adored The Book Thief, and I’m hoping to read Radio Silence later this year. The Girl with the Dragon tattoo was about #14 on my list, I think, but I went back through all the adult and YA books I’ve read, rather than the last two years. Do you know what the longest book you’ve read beyond the last two years is? 🙂 Great post!

I chose to focus on the last two years because its when I really started to read again. During high school and college, I wasn’t focused at all on reading for enjoyment. When I realized what I was missing in my life, I started tracking it all. I think the longest book that I’ve ever read is Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Great list – I love both The Book Thief and The Hate U Give! I definitely agree that some books do not need to be as long as they are, and so I have more than once felt that desire to just be over and done with a particular book 🙂

To me one of the worst feelings is wanting to be done with a book because I’m not enjoying it. Someone spent a ton of time and effort into writing a book, and I feel awful when I don’t enjoy it.

Oh The Book Thief is an all-time favourite of mine, I feel like in a way it’s such an emotional and moving story that it feels longer than it is but at the same time I sped through it when I first read it.
Great picks for this week. 🙂

I wasn’t able to speed through The Book Thief. I was one of those people who didn’t really enjoy it much, so it took me forever to get through. Thank you! Hope you had a great week 🙂

Oh that sucks, but I guess we can’t all like the same books can we? At least you can say you have it a try either way. 🙂
Thanks, you too. 🙂 ❤️

It’s one of those things that makes us all unique! We each have our own type of books that we like and there is nothing wrong with that. I am still happy I read it, even if I didn’t love it.

Yeah, and I think there are some books that even if you don’t end up loving them you’re still glad you read. I have a few like that myself. 🙂

I love The Book Thief, it’s one of my favourites. And yup, the top book on my list this week, Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix was definitely a drag and felt like it would never end.

Honestly, I agree with you about Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. It was my least favorite book, at the original time of reading because it seemed to drag on forever and as a fourth grader I just didn’t appreciate the book. Hope you had a great week!

Thanks! Yeah I think it is difficult to appreciate it as a kid, because it just SO long.
