It’s Monday, What Are You Reading #34

First week back and I accomplished my reading goal for the week! My Dark Vanessa was one of the best books that I’ve read in a very long time. And after many weeks of slowly making my way through Becoming, I finished it yesterday afternoon instead of making my weekly grocery list..

What I’m Reading This Week

I put Dear Martin on hold a few months ago at the library and it popped up earlier last week that it was available to download. As a young adult novel, it shouldn’t take too long to read this week, and then I’ll make my way to what was originally an ARC but has since been published back in February… Buy Yourself the F*cking Lilies. I would like to read it so that I will be 100% caught up on my ARCs from NetGalley.

Looking forward to reading what all of you read this past week and what’s upcoming in your lives – Leave a comment below and link your posts.

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, and are about to be reading over the week. It’s a great post to organize yourself. This meme started on J Kaye’s blog and then was hosted by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at The Book Date.

It has been over a year since I participated in this weekly write-up, but I wanted to reengage and this seems like the best way! I’ve spent the last few weeks trying to reconnect with books – luckily, I seem to be having a little luck and I have a slew of book reviews scheduled to post.

This would be the ideal time to focus on books from my at home library, but my library ebook trigger finger got the best of me and my holds keep popping up as ready (yay!). During May I’m hoping to catch up on my library holds, my ARCs and then switch over to finishing books from my personal library.

As for setting a new at-home schedule, how are all of you holding up? Has your reading changed at all since being at home?

What I’m Reading Now

This week that is all that I want to focus on – what I’m reading right now. I’ve been in the middle of Becoming for three weeks now and I just haven’t been able to press through because my library ebook loans keep popping up as ready. This week it’s finishing My Dark Vanessa before it expires, and then finishing up Becoming.

Working back into the Reading + Blogging Universe (IMWAYR #32)

Hi there readers. It’s been quite some time since I’ve taken the time to sit down and write. This is mainly due to the lack of reading that I’ve been doing, but also due to the lack of reflection going on in my life.

I’ve spent the last month and a half in this book-less trap. My goal of reading one book from my own bookshelf each month placed me in a challenging position because the first two books I picked up from my shelf in January and February I just could not get through. I was feeling defeated. And then I was behind on reading books that I loaned from the library… and it was honestly a downward spiral. So, I chose to not read. I actively made the choice to leave the books on the shelf and not subject myself to more personal annoyance.

Honestly though, I think it was for the best. Yesterday I picked up a book for the first time since the very beginning of March and I demolished it. I tore through the pages of Three Little Lies by Laura Marshall like I needed the words in my lungs to breathe. I don’t remember the last time I finished a book in less than 24 hours. It’s been a while…But it was the perfect novel for me to pick up with its suspenseful background.

So I would like to say that I’m back — but we all know how life goes. I don’t want to be frustrated with my passion for reading. I don’t want reading to feel like a chore because it takes the enjoyment out of the relaxation time. I’m hear to remind you that it is okay to take a break and focus on other aspects of your life. It is okay to remove the general annoyance and return to your passion when you are ready.

I think I’m ready. Without placing too much pressure on myself, my goal is to get through my remaining NetGalley reads in April. There are four books on the list, so it’s possible to read one a week (if my heart desires). We’ll see what happens.

I hope all is well.

Hello friends!~ I’ve been gone for a couple weeks. It’s the middle of February and I’ve read a whopping ONE book since the end of January (and I finished it this morning). It’s not a funk; it was a well-intentioned break brought on by the fact that I couldn’t get through The Red Tent. I have not given up because it came highly recommended to me by several people.

I finished Two Can Keep A Secret this morning and I loved it. It was a wild, thriller with a twist at the end that you definitely didn’t see coming.

The past few weeks have been dedicated to going to the gym, watching YOU on Netflix, relaxing and planning out our summer vacation. I love writing and reading, but there are also many other joys in life.

The Red Tent by Anita Diamant

I started The Red Tent at the very beginning of February as my read from my bookshelf choice.. and it has been hard to get into. Has anyone read this and loved it?

In times of stress, I find that cleaning, organizing, reading and cooking is the best way to de-stress. In the last week I’ve begun to organize my bookshelf and purge the books that I am never going to read. I’ve developed my spreadsheet** to encompass many different aspects of my reading life, and it is just one of those things that puts little hearts in my eyes. While I don’t really want to *schedule* the order of the books that I am reading, this year my focus is prioritizing my ARCs and library books, while also focusing on slimming down my unread shelved books.

What I Read Last Week

Words cannot describe exactly how much I loved Educated: A Memoir. There will be a full review coming in a few weeks.

If you haven’t read this memoir yet, pick it up from your local library or bookstore ASAP!

What I’m Reading This Week

There Will Be Stars is my priority this week. This is my January book from my personal unread bookshelf. We’re getting towards the end of January — how did that happen??

I’m about 100 pages into this novel, but it is a slow read. This isn’t my first time picking it up and I’m wondering if it’s worth giving this much attention to. In the past, I’ve read the first 30 pages about three times, but I couldn’t make it over the hump.

Have any of you read There Will Be Stars? It looks like it is going to be a light and airy novel, but it is not… I’m open to any insight you all might have!

**I wish I could remember the exact person I found the spreadsheet template from that I adopted mine from (shout-out and HUGE thank you to whoever you are!)

It’s a beautiful snow day in the DMV area! I have the day off work which means more time for reading, writing, television watching and eating warm, delicious soup. I’ve been dreaming of a snow day since we came back from winter break — Adjusting back to work can be a challenge when the last few months of your life has been crazy with travel! So I am thankful and grateful for this snow day.

“It’s Monday! What are you reading?” is a weekly meme hosted by Book Date. I enjoy participating in this post each week because you get to see the progress that other people are making on their books and goals each week.

What I’m Reading This Week

I went in with the intention of focusing purely on reading There Will Be Stars this week because it has been on my bookshelf for the last two years. But then my name finally popped up as number one at the library for Educated and I’ve been waiting months to read it! Then I went a little clicker happy on NetGalley where I found Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and A Mother’s Will to Survive and I didn’t think to check the publication date which was just a few short days away.

Hopefully this snow day will help me jump start my reading week!

I’m trying to be more strategic in completing my requested books from NetGalley. I feel as if it would be way better to provide the review for the book right around the time of its release — so here’s to another goal for 2019!

“It’s Monday! What are you reading?” is a weekly meme hosted by Book Date. I participated in this meme throughout a better part of 2018 and I am hoping to keep up with this weekly post throughout 2019. Last week I didn’t make a post because it was December 31st and I was preparing my End of the Year Review, which you can view here!

If this is your first time visiting Arguably Alexis, welcome! If you’ve been here before, thanks for coming back 🙂

This past week has been a great one. Work was a bit crazy, and I added in a few shifts at Paper Source; but then I got to head to Florida to spend time with family. I love the holiday season because I get to relax, eat yummy foods and read books.

I’m looking forward to the new year starting next week ~~

This is my weekly: It’s Monday, What Are You Reading post hosted by The Book Date.
